YW History 2015

The Parkway 8th ward young women started off the year learning about the 2015 Theme -
O Ye That Embark in the Service of God see that ye serve him with all of your heart, might, mind and strength that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.   D&C 4:2

In January, the young women and parents attended a stake meeting to introduce the theme and
a New Beginnings program was held to invite new beehives into Mutual.  This night was entitled, “Embark”.  We travelled to different ports to introduce the personal progress values.  We introduced the new young women who would be coming in for the year as beehives.  They included:
Oliva Madsen, Alexa Galacia, Adrienne Richins, Dasha Richards, Aubrey Bennett and Lydia Orton.

Each month the young women had a focus on a personal progress value.  Our mutual activities followed this monthly value.

Youth Conference was held April 23-24th at the Aspen Grove BYU center near Sundance, Utah.  The opening devotional featured a wonderful talk by Dawn Armstrong who had recently been in the movie, “Meet the Mormons”.
She gave a wonderful testimony.  We had a dance with other wards from the area.  We held workshops.  One about choosing good music, another
about feasting on the scriptures.

We had a Graduation night for the seniors who would be graduating from High School and moving on to Relief Society.  These young women included: Jenessa Soutas, Lizzie Hunsaker, Shalee Bullock, Kaylee Rushton, Kennedee Richards and Whitney Evans.

Girls Camp was held by the stake at the Heber Valley Girls Camp in July.
The girls had a great time canoeing, hiking, learning the ropes course,
eating and holding a campfire testimony meeting.

The young women presidency serving is as follows:  Jennifer Soutas (President) , Lynette Kankamp (1st counselor) , Cheryl Madsen (2nd Counselor)  and Diane Bullock as Secretary.

During the year Alisa Bodily was called to serve as our Beehive advisor.
Heather Evans and Heather Everett were released.  Lisa Henderson and Tara Orr were called as Mia Maid advisors.  Emily Green and Trisha Roberts were released.  Nikki Hooper was called as Laurel advisor.
Tamara Baggett and Krishelle McCann were released.

Other activities were as follows:
To go along with our “Embark” theme.  The Young women went boating at Jordanelle in August.  This was a very fun activity.  We talked about
the story of Christ calling his disciples to be fishers of men.

The young women did weekly baptisms for the dead at the Jordan River temple in August before school started.
We did a service project for sister Kankamp to help her with yard work.

We held a back to school BBQ at Jordan ridge park, combined with the young men.
The Fall Festival activity in October was a great missionary activity to get less active youth to come.  This service to the neighborhood is well attended and draws a few less active and non-member families.

Young Women in Excellence was held in November.  We concluded our year with a theme of searching for treasures.  Each of the young women were able to display items they had completed for their personal progress.
Young women who earned their Young Women Medallion this year included, Lizzie Hunsaker, Jenessa Soutas, Marissa Pomeroy, Kelsey Hyde and Sister Jennifer Soutas.
A November activity included a night when the youth organized and delivered Gift Baskets to ward members where we could show love.
In December, The youth went to Temple square for a fun scavenger hunt activity.

Our year was awesome as we were able to Embark in the service of God

Halloween night was nice and warm.  Kaitlyn went trick or treating barefoot.  Yes-I warned her
and yes, I gave in and picked her up so she could come home and put on shoes.
