Park City Weekend

We figured the only vacation we will get this year is to use our time-share days for a really quick weekend get-away that is close by.  So we decided on Park City.....

It was a little hectic, a little bit too cold, but it was still nice to get away!

Friday night we couldn't get there as quick as we would like to
because Kaitlyn was in the State Debate for 6th graders.

She and her friend Manya did a great job - debating why the
state should do away with plastic!!   She was assigned to oppose plastic - even though that's not really what she believes

The best part was the hot tubs in the snow....yes snow at the end of April

Making s'mores

We also went to a movie and went to Church on Sunday
It's always cool to go to another ward and feel the exact same
spirit - no matter where you go in the world for church...love it!

We picked up the poopies on our way home

Easter Week

Dear Benjamin Elder Soutas

Happy Easter

Wow so Faro sounds like a cool place to be?    What is it like?  Tell me everything you did this week?
It looks like you are down by the Strait of Gibraltar.  That's cool!    I hope you had a good week.
Were you able to do anything for Easter?   Do the Christian's there celebrate Holy Week? and did you get to see any of that?

Everyone just left our house from Easter Dinner.

We had a nice Day with all of the usual traditions.  We finally got the kids out of bed for the Easter Egg Hunt.  (It's kinda sad though because now Brycen was the
only one home last night to color the Easter Eggs)  Everyone else was with friends.
But everyone got into the hunt and found all the eggs but 1.  Doesn't this happen every single year?!

All of those red eggs are for our "Greek Easter" game

Easter Breakfast:

Then we had breakfast and got ready for church.   I taught my primary class a nice easter lesson about the 2 gifts Christ gave to us - resurrection and eternal life.  I showed them an Easter Video.
Are you able to use any of the church videos that they have made?  They have so many of them now and  they are great for teaching tools?

Earlier this week I actually was sick for a few days with stomach flu.  (We won't mention our favorite line from Nacho Libre )     It kept me in bed for a day and without energy for several more, so I didn't get too much done.  Just got the things I needed to do for Easter.

Friday was fun though.  We wanted to spend the day more in contemplation of the Savior so we took the kids to see a movie that is out called "Son of God"  It's a good accurate story of the Savior's life.
We went to dinner at Pei Wei.  Grandma Lynne and Grandpa Bob came with us.
It was good to think more about the reality of how much the Savior suffered for each of us.  The scenes in the movie did show a lot of His suffering.
The only reason I wouldn't give the movie a full 4 stars is because some of it was a little bit inaccurate.  They also didn't use the words from the King James Bible, it was all in modern language, so I didn't like that as well.
It also didn't show an accurate picture of Christ's suffering in Gethsemane.   I think many other religions focus more of His suffering on the cross.  But it was still good.
I also can see why some people don't think we are Christian's due to the fact that they all commemorate Holy Week much more fully than we do.   Many LDS people see the weekend as a holiday and go do fun stuff like St George and disneyland
So we kind of send the wrong message there.

Monday we had a brief passover dinner for Family Night.  We still had lamb and all of the symbolic food.  We had the kids try and tell more of the story to see what they are learning from it.  Every year, I am still amazed at all of the meanings

Our Passover Table

Charoset - representing the mortar for the bricks the Israelites made to build the pyramids in Egypt

Lamb - representing the "Lamb of God"

Seder plate and cup for Elijah

Well that's about it.   Dad and the kids are downstairs watching the 10 commandments.  I might go down and see the part where Moses parts the Red Sea. :)

I'm really looking forward to hearing about your week!

Love you forever!!  Mom
